Brazilian Mid Century Modern ‘Jangada’ Lounge chair and ottoman by Jean Gillon, 1968
Stunning lounge chair and ottoman by Jean Gillon, Brazil 1968. Spectacular typical Brazilian Mid Century modern design executed in Fine solid Jacaranda wood with a sling seat made of knotted rope and original Cognac colored leather cushions. The model is called ‘Jangada’ after the nets used on the typical Northern Brazilian fisher boats. The fishermen traditionally relaxed in these nets which comfortably unraptures the form of the body, this was what inspired Gillon with the design of this chair. The chair has many beautiful organic designed details giving the chair a magnificent sculptural appearance. The chair provides a great comfort especially together with the ottoman. In excellent original condition.
